Glasgow, R. S. Shearer and Son Stirling. 1895, 1st Edition. Original Illustrated Boards, Oblong 4to. Shearer's famous panorama of the Views from Ben Nevis - the ‘Ben’ Edition. The coloured panorama when laid out extends 98.5 " or 2.5 meters. Cloth red spine. Front board decorated with red text, with background of the ridges of Ben Nevis. Rear board has a map and the rear pastedown has a pasted text block offering details of the path up Ben Nevis recording the shelter half way up and "at the summit there is a Temperance Hotel at which visitors may remain overnight to witness the sunrise. Telegrams ae discharged from the Observatory at an exta charge of 6d. Ponies and Guides for the ascent from Fort William 21/-. The panorama is largely clean but with some wear on one of the folds and browning of the rear of the last plate, not extending to the panorama itself. Modestly handwritten on front board : "July 1898: Maggie and I climbred to top of Ben Nevis". Boards are worn especially at the corners and there are some handling marks. See scans and Email for many more. Good +/No Jacket (as issued).

1973, 1st Edition (as such). Sliding Binding, Small Quarto. Author's Presentation Copy, ? Proof of Shone's "Some Letters of Archibald Campbell". 79+p in card wrapper; tiltled in longhand (MS Copy No.2). Typewritten text with a number of handwritten annotations which have been photocopied from an earlier draft and are not fresh. The annotations would appear to be the draft for the Editors Notes" which are frequent in the final;printed edition at the foot of many pages. There are one or two photocopied plates but illustrations are incomplete and no evidence of the cartoons in the published version. This draft seems to contain at least one letter ( from MacPhail dated 1949 at Camrbridge) which is not printed in the published book. Likely a proof copy - inside front card cover is written in ink "~In gratitude to "JB". - almost certainly this is Pipe Major J.B.Robertson who is illustrated in the book and writes the preface. Covers a little nmarked - and pages held with a platic sprung spine binder. See scans. Very Good.
