This work is on Carmarthenshire, one of the largest of the thirteen historic counties of Wales. The first edition, first impression of both volumes. With six folding maps to volume I and numerous plates. Seven maps and numerous plates to volume II. Collated, complete. Subscriber's letter loosely inserted to volume I. Scarce in original dustwrappers. Dustwrappers preserved in brodart wraps. Edited by Sir John E Lloyd, a Welsh historian and theauthor of the first serious history of Wales' formative years. Condition: In original full red cloth bindings and held in original dustwrappers. Externally, both volumes are generally smart. Small patches of damp staining to the front and rear boards, particularly to the edges. Heavier damp staining to volume II. Minor bumping to the head and tail of spines. Dustwrappers are generally smart. Dustwrapper to volume I is severely sunned, with numerous handling marks. Loss to the head of dustwrapper to vol I and several chips to the extremities. Wrap to volume II has minor chips to extremities and to the head and tail of spine. A small tidemark to the front wrap. Small loss to the rear joint of volume II dustwrapper. A few handling marks to wrap of volume II. Internally, both volumes are firmly bound. Pages are generally bright with spots to the first and last few pages. The odd spot throughout. Overall: GOOD with GOOD dustwrappers.

With fold-out maps, including a Dialect Map of Carmarthenshire and maps of Megalithic, Bronze Age and Iron Age sites and finds, as well as many illustrations within the run of the text. 374 pages (including appendices) plus fold-out map at end. Volume 2: From the Act of Union (1536) to 1900; also with fold out maps and well-illustrated. 549 pages plus fold-out map at end. Condition: Boards worn, rubbed, bumped and faded, although sound. Prelims foxed (especially front free end paper) but otherwise generally internally clean, with just a little occasional spotting to margins. The maps are all in good condition, although the edges of some are rolled from careless re-folding into the book. Weight before packing 5.9 kg; extra postage will be needed for destinations outside the UK. Standard postage within the UK.. Good.
