The Bear Wood Estate - Finchampstead, Wokingham & Sandhurst, Berkshire. Auction Sale Prospectus 1911-1912 - Incomplete. But with 9 Original Sepia Photos of the District.
London, Messrs Trollope. 1911, 1st Edition. This collection comprises parts of the auction sale prospecti of the great auction sales of the Bearwood Estate in Wokingham in 1911 and 1912. The collection comprises two original coloured maps, card covers of three sales (+ one duplicate) and papers for lots 2-42 (including Bourton Villa, Shute End Lodge, Embrook House, Folly Farm House, Winnersh Grove and etc. Also Lots 51-88 (including Langley Pond Farm, Barkham Post Office, The Old Leather Bottle, polo ground and tennis courts, Finchampstead Post Office and etc. The coloured maps are 1) Plan No.6 comprising lots 59-66 all on the west side of the Railway from Ambarrow Farm through Wellington College to Queen's Bridge. - measures 22 1/12 " x 17" (57x43 cms) 2) Plan No 9 covering a large area from Sandhurst in the SE to Finchampstead in the SW and north to nine mile ride encompassing many numbered lots. Size 41" x 30" (102x72cms) The sales lasted over several days in 1911 and 1912 and further research is required to apportion these papers to specific auction days. The most useful part of this lot are the two maps. The sale particulars are disbound and have edge chips. The large map has been roughly folded but is intact and collectable. Included are 9 contemporary sepia photos of Bearwood Church. Bearwood School House, The Woods, Standen's lodge, Dance's Lodge, White's Lodge, and Bearwood School.
